Force-Feedback Effects

If you're having a problem while using a force-feedback controller and have no problems while the force-feedback effects are disabled, the problem may be with the game controller.

To disable force-feedback effects

  1. On the main screen, click Settings.
  2. Click Controls.
  3. Click the Forces tab.
  4. Clear the Enable force feedback check box.
  5. Click OK.

Controllers and Sound Acceleration

Controller ports are sometimes located on the computer's sound card. If your sound card cannot properly process game port signals and high-quality game sounds at the same time, you may need to reduce the sound playback quality.

To reduce the sound playback quality

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type DXDIAG.
  3. Click OK
  4. In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool dialog box, click the Sound tab.
  5. Under DirectX Features, move the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level slider left to Basic acceleration.
  6. Click Exit.

Device Drivers

Drivers are small software programs that allow your operating system to communicate with the hardware installed in or attached to your computer. A driver acts as a translator between your hardware and operating system, and can also enhance the operation of a particular piece of hardware, such as a video adapter or joystick. A damaged or outdated driver can cause many types of errors to occur.

A new driver for your joystick might allow your joystick to use features more efficiently or improve performance. The manufacturer of your controller probably offers free driver updates on their Web site. Contact your manufacturer to inquire about how to obtain and install the latest version of the driver.
